Two tenure-track positions at Illinois State University, Normal, Illinois

The Department of Special Education at Illinois State University, a large public university with state and nationally recognized teacher preparation programs, invites applications for two separate positions. The Department enrolls approximately 1000 students at the undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels. We offer graduate and undergraduate programs leading to licensure in multicategorical disabilities (LBS), low vision/blindess (LVB), and deaf/hard of hearing (DHH).  The ISU LVB program is one of the few undergraduate programs in the country and has a newly revised curriculum that includes extensive assistive technology as well as established connections with school partners. The Department is an ideal choice for an individual seeking a balanced professional life where contributions in teaching, research, and service are valued.

Position one:

One tenure-­‐track position to be filled at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor in the area of Low Vision/Blindness (LVB) or Low Incidence Disabilities to start on August 15, 2014, is a nine­‐month position with the opportunity for summer employment. Responsibilities may include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, supervising students in school practicum settings, conducting and supervising research activities, seeking external funding, and providing university and professional service.

Qualifications: Applicants must hold an earned doctorate in special education or related field (ABD considered). Priority will be given to applicants with expertise in LVB or low incidence disabilities who have university teaching experience, an active research agenda, and experience teaching or providing direct service to individuals with low vision/blindness or other low incidence disabilities. Preference will be given to applicants who have expertise in one or more of the following areas: Braille, Nemeth code, basic orientation/mobility, assistive/instructional technology, or transition.

Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, supervising theses and dissertations, maintaining an active research agenda, seeking external funding, and providing university and professional service.

Qualifications: Applicants must hold an earned doctorate in special education or a related area (ABD considered). Priority will be given to applicants who have prior university teaching experience, an active research agenda, and experience teaching or providing services to persons with disabilities. This position is for an individual with expertise in high-incidence disabilities. Preference will be given to applicants with qualifications in preparing special education teachers for instruction in academic content areas. Individuals with special expertise in the areas of assessment and intervention in relationship to literacy and math are strongly encouraged to apply.
