Assistant or Associate Professor
(Open Rank) Tenure Track Position
The University of Maryland, Department of Special Education, seeks a faculty member to begin Fall 2011. The Department is seeking an individual who will contribute to its long tradition of scholarly research and leadership in special education. The Department of Special Education is consistently ranked among the top programs in special education in the U.S. and offers degrees at the undergraduate, masters, and doctoral levels. Programs of study are offered in early childhood disabilities, low incidence disabilities, secondary and transition, high incidence disabilities, and disability policy studies. Opportunities for collaboration include the Maryland Neuroimaging Center and Maryland Institute for Minority Achievement and Urban Education (MIMAUE). The ideal candidate will bring a strong record of research and scholarly productivity, a commitment to teaching and mentoring of students, and a demonstrated track record in obtaining external funding. Position Description: Assistant Professor or Associate Professor: Preference will be given to candidates whose background includes one of the following: Early Intervention and Early Childhood or High Incidence Disabilities. Research interests in neuroscience and/or diversity and linguistic issues within these specializations are welcome. This faculty member will teach both undergraduate and graduate courses.
Qualifications for Position:
- Earned doctorate in special education or related field
- Record of publications and external funding commensurate with appointment rank
- Interest and skill in teaching and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students
- Interest and skill in culturally-responsive research and pedagogy
- National recognition, or the potential for national recognition, as a leader in individual’s area of expertise
- Ability to work collaboratively with academic colleagues and practitioners
