Over on Teaching Visually Impaired Children, Kevin is starting that blog’s fifth spin around the calendar. It was on this day in 2004 that he posted the first entry for Teaching Visually Impaired Children, commenting on having worked with an individual with visual impairments for a couple of years and offering “some tips that will help you to answer the needs of your student, make his/her life easier and less frustrating.”

Ken Kavale
Kenneth A. Kavale, a noted scholar who studied learning disabilities, emotional and behavioral disorders, intellectual disabilities, and special education policies, died Saturday 13 December 2008 in Virginia Beach (VA, US). Professor Kavale, who was born in 1946 in Brooklyn (NY, US) and was most recently a distinguished professor at Regent University in Virginia Beach (VA, US), was widely known for his work on the nature, assessment, and treatment of students with disabilities. He was author or co-author of hundreds of articles, book chapters, and books and had presented scores of papers at professional meetings, conferences, and other public venues.

Fans of the IRIS Center will want to know about new introductions to the excellent resources available at the IRIS center. These self-guided tours are good ways to introduce people who are new to the IRIS world.

Position in Behavior Disorders at Assistant/Associate Professor Level

The Department of Specialized Education Services, School of Education, The University of North Carolina at Greensboro announces the availability of a tenured or tenure-track position in Special Education with an emphasis in emotional and behavior disorders at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. Qualifications include (1) an earned doctorate in special education or appropriate field. ABD with a graduation date no later than August 1, 2009 is acceptable; (2) at least three years of teaching experience with students with disabilities in K-12 environments; (3) established or emerging record of scholarly productivity appropriate for a doctoral institution ; and (4) commitment to field-based, urban undergraduate and graduate teacher preparation premised on collaboration and multiculturalism in face to face and online formats. The application deadline is December 15, 2008. However, acceptance and review of applications will continue until the position is filled. If interested, please contact:
