Charter college of education

Department of Special Education and Counseling

Position:
A tenure-track Assistant Professor in the area of Special Education; Mild to Moderate (High Incidence) Disabilities. If unable to fill this position, it may be converted to Full-Time Temporary appointment.

Starting Date:
June or September, 2008. CSULA operates on a year-round quarter system calendar. The person selected may be required to teach Summer Quarter in lieu of a quarter during the traditional academic year.

Minimum Qualifications:
Ph.D., Ed.D., or ABD in Special Education or closely related field. An earned doctorate from an accredited institution of higher education is required for tenure. Candidates should have classroom teaching experience or related experience with students who have mild to moderate disabilities (i.e., learning disabilities, emotional/behavioral disorders, mild-moderate mental retardation/developmental disabilities). Candidates should provide record of or potential for scholarly activity involving students whenever possible, as well as the demonstrated potential for effective teaching using a variety of methodologies. Candidates should also demonstrate an ability or interest in teaching in a multicultural, multiethnic campus.

Preferred: Qualifications:
Specialized topical knowledge such as assessment, instructional methods, special education at the secondary level, curriculum adaptations, or other areas of expertise. Experience with professional development, university teaching, on-line instruction, or field supervision.

Duties:
In addition to teaching, duties include student advisement and committee service for the Division of Special Education and Counseling, Charter College of Education, and the University. Specifically, teaching duties include teaching credential, masters and doctoral level courses and supervising student teachers. Candidates are also expected to engage in scholarly activities.

Salary:
Initial salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
