Position: Assistant Professor of Special Education, Tenure Track
Nine month appointment with possible summer employment
Focus: Multicategorical Special Education – Elementary Focus
Required Qualifications: Earned doctorate in special education by August 2008 with emphasis in academic assessment and interventions; at least two years of successful experience working in public schools with students with high incidence disabilities; capacity and desire to engage in scholarly activities, including production/publication and other dissemination of scholarly works.
Preferred Qualifications: Competence in specialized reading/literacy and/or mathematics instruction for students with disabilities and in design and delivery of online instruction
Responsibilities:
1. Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in special education, with major focus on teacher certification courses in multicategorical special education for students with high incidence disabilities.
2. Design/refine coursework to prepare general educators and special educators to deliver educational programs based on content standards and individual education programs to students with disabilities.
3. Deliver courses face-to-face and also through synchronous and asynchronous online instruction.
4. Design/refine program to ensure educators will have knowledge, skills, and dispositions to provide appropriate and effective instruction for students with disabilities in inclusive schools.
5. Collaborate with faculty in other education specialties and professional disciplines and with practitioners in professional development schools as well as other public schools and community agencies.
6. Advise graduate students and supervise practica/internships.
7. Supervise doctoral student progress in the program and dissertation research.
8. Implement a productive research agenda related to special education.
9. Write proposals to secure external funding to support teaching, research and service efforts.
10. Provide service to the College, the University, the State, the public schools, and the discipline.
Starting Date: August 16, 2008
