The Department of Special Education, Rehabilitation and School Psychology (SERSP) announces an opportunity to join our Faculty and lead our Department, which includes programs in rehabilitation, school psychology, and special education that reflect a common focus on disability. Faculty have made significant contributions to scholarship in such areas as American Sign Language; deaf studies; deaf/hard of hearing; bilingual multicultural special education; blind/visual impairment; educational interpreting; gifted; learning disabilities; behavior analysis; severe/multiple disabilities; assessment of cognitive abilities and psycho-educational assessment; psychosocial aspects of disability; behavioral disorders in youth; classroom management; child and adolescent psychotherapy; developmental neuropsychology; neuropsychological correlates of learning disabilities; rehabilitation education; rehabilitation counseling; psychiatric and international rehabilitation; and disability and aging.

We attract linguistically, geographically, and ethnically diverse and highly qualified students to our undergraduate, master’s, educational specialist, and doctoral programs. Our location in the southwestern United States, only 60 miles from Mexico and near several Native American communities, and our long history of involvement with area schools and populations provide diverse and rich settings in which to conduct field-based research. Position Summary:

The Department of SERSP in the College of Education at the University of Arizona is seeking a tenured senior-level faculty member to serve as Department Head. The department offers degrees at the baccalaureate, masters, educational specialist, and doctoral levels to a diverse body of 100 undergraduates and 300 graduate students. The department consists of 17 full-time faculty, 26 adjunct faculty, and 13 staff members.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Supervise and manage the department’s administrative operations as well as provide leadership and open communication. Work collaboratively to maintain partnerships with area and state educators and to make programs responsive to community, state and national needs.

Qualifications:

• A doctoral degree and expertise in special education, rehabilitation, or school psychology
• Strong record of teaching and scholarship (including a record of funded research and publications) sufficient for appointment as a tenured associate or full professor.
• Administrative experience in higher education (e.g. supervising budget, fund raising for departmental initiatives, supporting grant applications and oversight)
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Experience in diverse and multicultural communities
