Clinical Child Psychologist with a focus on Autism for a faculty position and to direct the Kentucky Autism Training Center (KATC) College of Education & Human Development, University of Louisville, Louisville, KY

The College of Education and Human Development is seeking an exemplary teacher/scholar who has demonstrated expertise in autism for a faculty and director position to teaching in either an APA approved Counseling Psychology Program for of a state-wide autism center (KATC). KATC is an integral element of a University-wide Center of Excellence in Autism that includes close collaboration and integration of efforts with Psychiatry, Pediatrics, and other core areas of the university. We seek an original thinker with creative ideas who is passionate about research and service that addresses the needs of with persons with autism, their families, and community supports including their teachers and schools. Applicants are sought for either a tenure track or non-tenure track faculty position. Those wishing a tenure track position will have qualifications appropriate for the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or, Professor in a preeminent research university. We seek a director who has demonstrated a dedication to creating and enhancing partnerships with school districts and educational organizations (e.g., family agencies, resource and referral networks), success in obtaining extramural funding, and a strong ability to lead the Center toward high levels of state and national impact.

The CEHD at the University of Louisville is ranked among the Top 50 Public Colleges of Education in US News and World Reports and is part of a Doctoral/Research Extensive institution enrolling approximately 21,000 students in a vibrant metropolitan area with a population of approximately one million. The appointment would be in one or more of these units as appropriate. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The primary duties of this appointment are to serve as Director for the Kentucky Autism Training Center. In that role, the Director will provide supervision, support, and professional develop to staff, work successfully with stakeholders in the community, the state, and with advisory boards from the community and the College, develop new education-based initiatives in collaboration with funders and stakeholders, manage the budget, and provide leadership to the development and extramural support efforts for the KATC, and to integrate the efforts of the KATC with the Department of Teaching and Learning and the university-wide initiative. In addition, depending on the position as negotiated, tenure-track faculty members are expected to teach, conduct research, and perform service activit ies within the psychology and special education programs as appropriate to the appointment level and goals. Preference will be given to candidates with a strong commitment to the CEC Standards and to instruction that actively engages teachers in assessing the needs of persons with autism, developing instructional strategies for home and school and using instructional technology. Responsibilities include administrating the center, assisting in the development of state-wide supports for persons with autism, taking leadership in program development, seeking grant funding, conducting research on best practices and providing service to the college, university, professional associations and discipline-related community partners.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Doctoral degree in clinical/school/counseling/educational psychology or special education (or related field) with evidence of expertise in the field of autism
  • Demonstrated leadership and administrative capabilities
  • Demonstrated competence working with PreK-12 schools
  • Demonstrated interest and experience in working in partnership with families
  • Demonstrated successful history of grant writing and grant-funded research
  • Commitment to equity and social justice
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with colleagues, communicate effectively, and interact with a wide variety of professionals
  • Demonstrated interest and potential in research and scholarly publication
  • Evidence of successful school and community partnership experiences in diverse settings
  • Evidence of a focus on research-based, interdisciplinary approaches to developmental disabilities
  • Demonstrated excellence in scholarly research

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (as appropriate to level - entry, advanced,senior):

  • Demonstrated successful teaching experience in psychology, educator and/or teacher preparation programs in higher education
  • Demonstrated ability to form alliances with other autism-related organizations and campus units

SALARY:
Competitive, based upon qualifications and experience

APPOINTMENT:
The 12-month appointment begins July 2007 or before depending on availability of the candidate.
