Assistant Professor
The faculty of the College of Education at California State University, Dominguez Hills invites applications from individuals for this tenure track position. The successful applicant will teach classes and provide supervision in the early childhood special education and/or moderate-severe special education programs. The college offers a Master of Arts degree in Special Education and Education Specialist credentials in teaching mild-moderate, moderate-severe, and early childhood special education. The special education programs prepare teachers for inclusive, ethnically and culturally diverse urban schools. The College of Education is accredited by NCATE and the educational programs are accredited by the California Committee on Teacher Credentialing.
Position
Responsibilities include teaching credential and graduate courses in early childhood special education and/or moderate-severe disabilities in areas such as emergent or early literacy, curriculum development and instructional strategies, language development and language intervention, assessment, inclusive practices, and/or typical and atypical development. The successful candidate will supervise credential candidates in their fieldwork, advise students, and serve on program advisory and university committees. In addition, the successful candidate will conduct relevant research, collaborate with colleagues and with partner institutions, and serve as an integral member of the faculty in the College of Education.
Required Qualifications
• Earned doctorate in special education or a related field from an accredited university; ABD candidates may be considered;
• Minimum of two years of successful P – 12 experiences with preschool children with disabilities and/or students with moderate-severe disabilities;
• Demonstrated ability to work with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community, school systems and community organizations;
• Expertise in research-based instruction in one or more of the following areas: emergent or early literacy, curriculum development, instructional strategies, language development, language intervention, assessment; inclusive practices and/or typical and atypical development.
Desired Qualifications
University, school district, or agency supervision experience; experience in inclusive urban multicultural school and/or community agency settings; university teaching experience; credential in early childhood special education and/or moderate-severe disabilities; recent scholarly and service activities that include an emerging or established research interest; publications, conference presentations, grant activity, collaboration with school districts and other public agencies; and planning and implementing research projects in early childhood special education and/or moderate-severe disabilities.
Rank and Salary
Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experiences. Periodic salary adjustments are enacted by the state legislature. Additional teaching in summer and intersession may be available.
